BMet have eleven courses all free for people in receipt of Universal Credit, JSA, ESA or Income Support.

Summary of the courses available:

  • ESOL classes at The Language Centre in Highgate
  • Cleaning and Facilities course at JobSkills@BMET (Birmingham City Centre) in 2 weeks’ time
  • Customer Service and Employability Level 1 for support with interview skills and more
  • Engineering and Manufacturing Level 2 course based for the first time at Matthew Boulton Campus
  • Health and Social Care Level 1, perfect for parents (lesson times 10am-2.30pm)
  • Basic IT course to help IT beginners with using the internet, word processing and emailing
  • Business Administration basic course with training on email etiquette, presentations and report writing
  • Food Safety Level 1 qualification (1 day course)
  • Health and Safety at Work qualification (1 day course)
  • Practical Horticulture Skills Level 1 at based Botanical Gardens in July (in glorious sunshine!)

FREE Couch to 5k beginners running course – new session added!

The couch to 5k beginners running course will now take place on:

Tuesdays – starting 2nd June

Thursdays – started 28th May

6pm – 7pm – Meet outside the CVCHA offices, 11 High St, Castle Vale, B35 7PR. Join weeks 1-3 only.

The Couch to 5k plan is designed to get you off the couch and gradually work you up to running 5k (or for half an hour), in just 9 weeks.  It is designed for absolute beginners using a mixture of walking and jogging to gradually build up your fitness and stamina.

How long are the sessions for?

  • Sessions last between 30 minutes and 45 minutes including warm up and cool down depending on capacity of participants.

What should I wear?

  • Comfortable clothing and trainers

What do I need to bring with me?

  • A drink

Castle Vale Literacy Champions Programme – spaces available for families

CVLC Family posteerThe Castle Vale literacy Champions programme has spaces available for families with a child aged between 2-5 years old. The sessions focus on promoting a love of reading by sharing books and stories, creative arts and crafts activities, songs and rhymes and a visit to the local library. Families will work 121 with a family support volunteer for 1 hour per week for 6 weeks in a community venue. Families will receive 3 FREE books of their choice.

We currently have sessions taking place on:

  • Wednesdays between 11am -1.30pm at the Sanctuary
  • Thursday 10am – 2.30pm at the Castle Vale Children’s Centre

We are also due to start sessions at Castle Vale Nursery School.

You don’t need to have good reading or writing skills yourself. Your volunteer will help you find fun ways of supporting your child that work for you.

Castle Vale Digital Inclusion Project needs your vote! #VoteCastleVale

vOTE CASTLE VALECastle Vale Community Housing Association and Birmingham Metropolitan College are appealing to residents to support their bid to deliver a pioneering IT learning project to people in the area.

Voting is open between now and 31 May for the Castle Vale Digital Inclusion Project to help residents and the wider community become more IT literate and engage with the online community.

Approximately 150 residents will benefit from the training opportunities such as:

  • BTEC Entry Level 3 Award in IT User and introductory courses
  • Introduction to Basic IT skills
  • Social network for beginners
  • Know your digital footprint
  • On-line safety for parents
  • Using your computer to help your child at school
  • Digital Photography group.

The children and governors of Castle Vale Nursery School and Children’s Centre wish to appoint an experienced, enthusiastic and highly motivated Family Support Worker to work as part of our Children’s Centre team.

At our setting children and families are at the heart of everything we do. We believe every child has the right to achieve their full potential.

The Family Support Worker will need excellent interpersonal, communication (written, verbal and IT) and planning skills, and have the ability to establish good working relationships with children their families and partner agencies. You will be committed to raising the aspirations of our children and families and will be the first point of contact for parents offering support and advice when needed.
